With the DRUNKNMUNKY Bowl-a-Rama fast approaching we here at Red Pen Streetboard Magazine thought it was time to catch up with the the guys at DRUNKNMUNKY and have some words. Theyare putting up and supporting the scene with cold hard cash as well as getting on with the hypersonic legend that is Gabi Muñoz. Go support them and their vibe over on Facebook.

Hi guys, first up tell us a bit about Drunknmunky?
Well the brand originated in Los Angeles, the founders were two young guys both with Chinese heritage. They realised that there was no individuality in fashion and the “super- brands” were brainwashing generations defining how they dressed and suppressing their identities. They were determined to rebel and declare their independence and individuality. They drew upon their own heritage and were inspired by the way of the Shaolin Monks to cure this illness.
The monks rigid regime was uniquely focussed on completing a series of 9 increasingly challenging trials. Completion of each of the trials was rewarded by receiving a sacred Shaolin dot, branded into the forehead. No trial was more difficult than when the novice had to master DRUNKNMUNKY, a complex style of Kung Fu; not a true form but one which demands complete control of mind and body to mislead one’s opponent.
From our eastern routes we take inspiration and ideologies from the Shaolin monks. Admiring the dedication and determination of the monks DRUNKNMUNKY took inspiration and the most unique and diverse clothing label was born! DRUNKNMUNKY represents supreme achievement; to break through all physical and mental barriers and establish the perfect state of self confidence and individuality.
You will see the sacred nine dots on all of our clothing.
How long have you been around?
Drunknmunky was established in L.A in 1999 before making its way across the pond!
What you guys got going on for 2010?
We recently launched our brand new European website drunknmunky.eu which has had a fantastic response. We have profiles on skaters, streetboarders as well as an artist section and a look at the latest collection.
Apart from sponsoring the Bowl O’ Rama we are following streetboarder Gabi Munoz on his travels around Asia and when he returns to Barcelona. We’ve got some great shots of Gabi reppin’ Drunknmunky and showing off his famous tricks! We’re also working with Dj Mandrayq from Italy who just did a couple of gigs in the UK recently which went down a fucking storm so expect to hear his name a lot more throughout 2010.
How did you guys hear about streeetboarding?
All through Gabi Munoz really, he’s a great guy which we were in contact with when he was into straight up skating. He then came to us a while back saying “there’s this awesome new thing called streetboarding!” after seeing a few video’s and images, we were bought!
What you looking forward to about Bowl o Rama?
Seeing new talent. These sort of events will always bring up some really talented individuals who stand out. Also seeing how hard they party in Liverpool!
Any plans to sponsor any more riders?
As I just mentioned, there is always at least one individual that stands out, if not more. Not necessarily just skills but the guys who fit into the brands philosophy and understand the brand are the ones who we enjoy working with.
